Chaman-e- Sir Sayyad
This Blog is dedicated to the educational institution which was started by Sir Sayyad Ahmed Khan as a college called Muhammadan Anglo Oriental (M.A.O.) College. This college which was started in 1885 went to become a University in 1920. Since then, it is known as "Aligarh Muslim University". This university is also known as "Chaman-e Sir Sayyad" since he was the one who sowed the seeds and watered the plants of this chaman (garden).

Kudos for presenting Aligarh & Aligs so beautifully. No Alig can help going down the memory lane & feeling nostalgic after reading your blog.
While most of my friends joined Alig community in 84, I was at AMU 87-93. My father was at AMU in 1952. So I know the experiences of many generations & can say that the spirit remains unchanged as do the jokes & anecdotes but for cosmatic changes to suite the time e.g. the story my father had heard about 'Tommy', was set in pre-independence era, with vice-roy or some other 'angrez' visiting AMU & Tommy receiving him a few stations before Aligarh. The visitor appreciated the beautiful Univ Mosque & enquired if there was a church as well? Without any hesitation, Tommy pointed to a corner of SS hall, which has a Victorian feel in its architecture, & masterfully changed the topic to involve the visitor in something else.
Again the graphic with the topic 'bhasad' is very suitable & explains the term quite well. The selection of words & epithets is good.
In the end it was no surprise to learn that you are a professional writer.
Keep it up.

Walekum as-salaam Junaid Sb,
I am so delighted to read your comment. Every time, this blog gets a comment, i feel so happy but your comment makes me believe that AMU will retain its USP of standing out of the crowd and getting noticed for its humour, style and traditions although some cosmetic changes might creep in.
Once again, I thank you for all the appreciation & encouragement. Request you to keep coming back.
